London Hotels That Reflect the History, Heritage and Culture of Europe at Affordable Rates

Friends of mine recently returned from a European vacation, something they had dreamed about for years.  They’d been saving diligently (knowing how expensive London hotels can be) and I asked them to share any tips they might be willing to pass on in terms of making such a vacation affordable.  They were more than happy to do so, explaining that the primary purpose of the trip was to experience the old world: its history, culture and dining.  They also mentioned that they found a way to trim costs substantially, to the point where staying at a fabulous spot in Paris was little more than the price of many Melbourne hotels.

First a little background on our pair of travelers.  William and Janet are a younger couple in their early thirties.  They live in Auckland and both work in the technology industry.  They’re a little more tech savvy than I am (iPhones, iPads, iPods and MacBooks are everywhere in their house) and that probably explains how they found www.expedia.co.nz so quickly and were immediately willing to embrace what the site had to offer.  I learned a lesson from them, and I’ll be using the site myself for my next trip (London hotels starting for under $50 per night!) rather than using a travel agent.

According to Janet, they did initially meet with several travel agents and outlined their plans to spend three weeks in Europe, primarily England and France.  Their intention was to spend most of their time touring historical sites, visiting museums and art galleries and enjoying authentic cuisine.  They had a definite budget in mind and this was shattered as soon as the travel agent started quoting them prices for Paris hotels.  They were torn, because they were willing to stay in lower cost accommodations for part of the trip, but they also wanted to experience the historic, luxury hotels that are known for making Melbourne hotels seem distinctly pedestrian.

Fortunately, www.expedia.co.nz was able to help William and Janet find the deals that their travel agent couldn’t.  Their trip included stays at some of the finest Lo
