Murder Mystery Party Game & Murder Mystery Dinner Parties

If you`ve not played a murder mystery party game or attended a murder mystery dinner party before, things can seem a bit strange. It really isn`t difficult to play murder mystery party games or a murder mystery dinner party, they are little more than evenings of glorified "let`s pretend murder" games. But if you do need a bit of help, here are a few tips to help you get you started playing a mystery party game or if attending murder mystery dinner parties.  #1 First Things First Before you arrive at the murder mystery you should have enough details to provide yourself with some kind of costume.

You`ll have some idea of the background to the evening, and you`ll have a list of other characters.

Perhaps you`ll know who is playing those characters. Normally you won`t need to bring along any props. Items in murder mystery games are usually represented using slips of card or paper. Props can be useful, and your host may ask that you bring something along. You should never (and I can`t stress this highly enough) use props for weapons. It`s just too dangerous anyone passing may not realise that you`re only playing a game and may call the police. And the police don`t use props they have real weapons. It`s not worth the risk. But other than that, props are fine.

When you arrive you will be given your detailed character background, the rules and anything else you need such as items and money. Your character background will explain why you are here and detail any secrets that you need to keep hidden. It will also provide you with some objectives such as solve the murder, make lots of money or get revenge on someone. You may have several objectives. The rules should be pretty simple if there`s something you don`t understand (or something that you want to do that doesn`t appear to be covered by the rules) go and talk to your host.

It`s possible that you`ve already been given the detailed background and goals for your character. Normally you would receive this just before the game starts, but sometimes they are handed out in advance. If so, it`s important not to start discussing your character with anyone else before the game starts. If you do so, you`re likely to give away certain secrets and spoil the game mainly for yourself!

Oh, and be prompt. There`s nothing worse than turning up la
