Hayley Westenra - Pure
I was a bit sceptical when I had first heard of Hayley Westenra - sceptical that such a young girl would could have such a tremendous voice. But I was definitely wrong; I was blown away when I heard her music. On Pure, Hayley's first internationally-released album, Hayley just takes off and brings the listener along with her. Co-produced by Beatles producer Sir George Martin, the album is home to many excellently performed tracks. My personal favourites are tracks seven through eleven. It didn't take a hard sell to convince me what my ears could plainly hear, that Hayley's is a voice as serenely beautiful as it gets. I've already put several songs consistently on "repeat": the tribal love ballad "Pokarekara Ana," the soothing slice of "Heaven," and the stunning alt-rock number " Wuthering Heights " which grew and grew on me.
